1988 Fender Strat Plus (10-7502)
Quick historyAfter CBS sold Fender in 1985, there were no U.S. guitars being made from 2/85 to 10/85. Fender started up again in late 1985, but only on vintage Strat reissues. Then in 1986 Fender produced new American Standards. Finally in 1987, a new upgraded version of the American Standard Strat was born: The Strat Plus.
The very first Plus' have an E4XXXXX serial number, indicating they are from 1984. But the truth is, 1984 Strats do not exist. Fender was using leftover parts from its down years when production for the Plus Series started in 1987.
This Strat's serial number (E479808) indicates it was an early model. The bridge pickup has been replaced with a Hotrail, and the neck and mid pups appear to be remnants from the pre-CBS sale (Pickup Resistance: 5.9 kohms). Overall, this guitar has a fantastic sound. And its locking tuners and rolling nut always keeps it in tune.
More info:

  • Born 5-9-1988 at either the Corona or Fullerton plant
  • Full Wilkinson roller nut
  • Sperzel locking tuners
  • 2-point floating bridge
  • Alder body and maple neck
  • Biflex truss rod system: adjusts the neck in two directions, allowing for a more precise curvature
  • Floating bridge uses a screw-in tremolo arm (not included)

Customizations include:

  • Seymour Duncan Hotrail pickup in the bridge (wound by Catalina Padilla)
  • Push/pull switch at the center tone knob
  • Black pickguards, front and back
  • The back neck plate has been replaced--doesn't have the Fender logo
