I have for
auction a 1991 Fender Stratocaster American Standard Plus. It is in a rare
color, Root Beer Metallic, and features a Rosewood fingerboard, which makes it
even more hard to find. It comes with its original case and docs which include
the hang tag, owners manual, Fender Lace sheet, and tremolo instructions. It
includes the original whammy bar.
The Strat
Plus Series was introduced by Fender in 1987 and was the highest end
production model next to Fender's Custom Shop guitars. Production was
stopped in July of 1998. The Fender-Lace Sensor pickups, invented by Don Lace,
were introduced in 1987, and a new upgraded version of the American
Standard Strat was born. The Strat Plus! The Standard Strat Plus came with 3
Gold Lace Sensor pickups, which were designed to give a 50's single coil
sound, with a lot of chime and even bell like tones. Crisp and quiet, they
really do perform like a 1950's pickup, but with no hum! Standard Plus guitars
had: locking tuners, roller nuts an American two-point floating
bridge, with strings going through the body, a TBX lower tone control, swimming
pool route and Lace Sensor pickups.
Owning a
guitar likely to continue to appreciate in value is a good thing, but if you
are going to play it, it needs to perform as well. The tone of the FLS pickups
is really nice. Compared to my newer American Standard, this guitar has a
sweeter tone and seems to have a longer sustain. Unlike my other strat, it is
dead quiet. It definitely has a more
solid feel, better fit and finish than my newer one. It seems to be a little
heavier as well. It has only a couple of minor blemishes. I can’t believe this
guitar has ever been gigged. No buckle rash. My other strat has been out maybe
20 times and is in way worse shape than this one. This is not a perfect guitar,
but you will have a hard time finding one that has ever been played in better
shape. I would love to keep this guitar, but mamma says I have too many toys.
I will
overpack this so that it arrives undamaged. Please see my feedback. Best of
luck bidding!
